Many people have a love or fear of God, and they want to go to heaven, but they believe that they have too much sin in their lives. In many cases, people who think this way are dealing with addiction. I’m here to tell you that you can quit your addiction and go to heaven with the help of God and Jesus Christ.
Addiction can mean many things. There are some addictions that won’t get you in trouble with God or anyone else, like chewing your nails or clicking your tongue. Those aren’t so bad.
However, you may have a serious condition, like an addiction to drugs, alcohol, gambling, or even an addiction to work. There are also addictions to pornography, cursing, or lusting about people you see on TV or at work.
In most cases, an addiction is a type of sin. If you never turn to God and repent, then you find yourself going to hell. But that DOES NOT need to be the case.
Let’s talk about how to quit your addiction and go to heaven.
Why Would An Addiction Keep You Out Of Heaven?

As humans, we cannot help ourselves when it comes to sin. Because Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, our hearts have become evil from birth. It doesn’t seem fair, but that’s the lot we’ve been given. The thing is, even if you sin, there is a way to heaven.
All you need to do is believe in Jesus Christ as your true savior. If you truly believed that he lived, died, and rose again for all of us, you’re “saved” and you can go to heaven.
However, the other part of being saved is repenting for your sins. You need to stop your sinful and often addictive behaviors and tell God that you want to be changed for the better. Once you do that, the Holy Spirit will come in and help you to overcome your addiction.
Most addictions are based on sin. If you constantly lie, cheat, look at others with lust, curse, get jealous of what other people have, or experience any other sinful behavior, then you need to ask Jesus Christ to be your personal savior. There is no other way.
If you never turn to God and believe in Jesus Christ as your savior, then you will go to hell. It doesn’t matter how good of a person you are. God gave you free will. He knows that your heart is wicked, but if you turn to him, your sin will be forgiven. He won’t force you to turn to him. You need to make the decision on your own.
How To Quit Different Addictions

Once you realize that God is in your corner, you’ll likely want to learn how to quit your addiction and go to heaven. However, an addiction is an addiction because it’s hard to quit. If we could just stop doing bad behaviors, most of us would, but it’s not always that easy.
However, when there’s a will, there’s a way. Here are some ways to quit your addiction, regardless of what they may be:
Realize That You Have A Problem
The first step to quitting different addictions is to realize that you have a problem. Most people don’t read the Bible, and they don’t realize just how many of the things we do are sinful to God. Many people also don’t think that their sin is so bad because, overall, they are good people, so they’ll still get to heaven.
As we mentioned, this is not true. You need to turn to Jesus Christ and repent.
Don’t forget that once you die, wherever you go, you’ll be there for eternity. So, if you go to heaven, you’ll be at peace forever. Perhaps even millions of years. It will be wonderful.
However, if you go to hell, you will also be there forever. Hell is not fun. You will not be able to talk to anyone else. It’s not a hangout place. The Bible says you will burn for eternity. It will be unbearable pain forever. Do you want that? Knowing this may be enough to help you quit your addiction.
Talk To People Who Have The Same Addiction
Another way to quit your addiction and go to heaven is to talk to people who currently have or used to have the same problem as you. If you want to learn how they’re dealing with their addiction or how they have quit and never looked back, then ask them.
Often, you can find groups that help people with addictions, like those for alcohol and narcotics. There may also be people in your social circle who have the same addiction or are dealing with something similar. Talk to them.
You may also have a friend or family member in your life that you truly admire. Even if they don’t have an addiction, they could be someone to talk to. Sometimes, calling someone every time you’re feeling an urge may be all you need to quit completely.
Turn To God

Of course, the best way to get rid of addiction and go to heaven is to turn to God and Jesus Christ. If you want to quit your addiction and please your heavenly father, then pray to God. Ask for forgiveness and help. God wants you to be happy. He loves you. He wants to help you. But you may have to ask so he knows you’re serious.
There are also passages in the bible that can help with your addiction:
- 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 (NIV) – “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.”
Translation: It’s like we said before. If you pray and ask God for help, he will forgive you. As part of that, he will help to cure your addiction. It may not happen overnight, but if you’re willing to try, then you have a good chance of quitting the habit.
- Jeremiah 30:17 (NIV) – “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD.”
Translation: God loves you and he wants you to be happy and healthy. Pray to him, and he can help your addiction. As a side note, you are unlikely to be able to quit your habit by sheer willpower. Even if you don’t believe in God, he loves you, and if you’ve been able to quit an addiction in the past, he’s often the reason.
- Isaiah 40:29 (NIV) – “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Translation: People fall into the trap of addiction because they are weak. We give in to evil temptations even if we don’t realize it. If you feel like you can’t quit your addiction because you’re weak, then you need to pray. Then, God will give you the strength to quit the habit.
Conclusion
If you have the desire to quit your addiction and go to heaven, then you can do it. All you need to do is believe in what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross, and the Holy Spirit will help you get through your issues. Repent for your sins and ask for a new start.
We believe in you!
