10 Video Games Christian Teens Shouldn’t Play

5–8 minutes

The video game industry continues to be one of the largest industries in the entire world, bringing in billions of dollars per year. Every week, new video games hit the market. Do you know which ones your Christian child is playing? The fact is that there is a massive list of video games Christian teens shouldn’t play.

As time goes on, the sin problem in the world continues to escalate, and many of the current video games are highlighting this issue under the disguise of entertainment. There are many video games that are perfectly fine for Christian children. However, if you don’t want them to be exposed to bad behaviors then avoid these games at all costs.

1. Grand Theft Auto Games

Among the video games Christian teens shouldn’t play are any of the Grand Theft Auto games. There have been many GTA games over the years for many different platforms. Beware of these games.

Just about any mission or level will involve one of many different sins, from theft and vulgar language to violence and drug use. Basically, these are games that should be avoided at all costs if you want to keep your teens from the evils of the world.

2. Red Dead Redemption

The Red Dead Redemption games are made by the same company as the Grand Theft Auto games, so you should avoid them for the same reasons. They are violent, full of foul language, and they have a lot of negative aspects that even adults should shy away from. The games are set in the old West, so there are fewer modern threats, but they are also considered as some of the video games Christian teens shouldn’t play.

Sometimes avoiding video games may be best, especially for younger kids.

3. Resident Evil Games

Among the most violent games are those in the Resident Evil franchise. Christian teens are well aware of the sin of the world and the strength and power that the devil has on the Earth. They probably don’t need to be reminded of it in their video games. While the word “evil” in the title should tip you off, these should be avoided.

In addition to the gunplay and violence, the games feature characters and creatures that are not of the bible, so avoid them.

4. The Witcher Games

Again, the name probably tells you that these are among the video games Christian teens shouldn’t play. There are some very dark themes in these open-world games. Characters cast spells and hurt people and monsters with extreme violence.

The other aspect of these games that you should be concerned about is the nudity that can appear in them. Characters get into compromising situations, and it’s not suitable for teens. Kids should not be subjected to the material. Though they’re not as popular, you should also avoid the Leisure Suit Larry games for the same reasons.

5. Mortal Kombat

Back in the 1990s, it was the Mortal Kombat games that sparked a major outrage amongst parents who believed that the over-the-top violence would lead their kids to commit violence. While good christian parenting and a solid understanding of the bible will prevent your kids from turning to violence, these games are still not recommended.

The Mortal Kombat games are as violent as ever, and improved graphics are only making things worse. These are just not images that your children should be seeing.

6. Far Cry Games

Though they are popular among the gaming community, parents should try to avoid any of the games in the Far Cry series. These are open world games with very mature themes that are not suitable for youngsters. In addition to the violence and use of weapons, the games use a lot of foul language, including using the “G–D—” swear word in every other sentence.

As a saved and born-again christian, it should hurt your ears to hear God’s name taken in vain, so avoid these games.

Instead of playing games, consider reading the Bible. It’s full of adventure!

7. First-Person Shooters

Be very aware of any games in the first-person shooter genre. These are games where you see the character holding the weapon as they hunt down hordes of bad guys or monsters. Some popular games you may have heard of in this genre include Doom, Duke Nukem, Cyberpunk, and others.

These games always contain lots of gore and violence. Plus, almost all of them are loaded with foul language since the main character is typically a “grizzled guy who has had enough,” so he rarely has anything good to say. Be cautious of games like these.

8. Saints Row Games

Like many modern games, the Saints Row games are also bad. Most of these games involve some type of gang that commits crimes or acts of violence toward others. Also, like just about every single game that is released these days that includes dialogue, there’s a ton of foul language including a disturbing frequency of using God’s name in vain in every way possible.

9. Ninja Gaiden Games

The Ninja Gaiden series has been around since the original Nintendo, and while it was violent but still suitable then, it certainly isn’t now. The games are now very violent and there will be blood and guts flying everywhere. The games won’t make your kids want to commit violence, but they’re not suitable for children who want to follow Jesus’ example.

After all, if Jesus was on earth now, do you think he would ever touch games like these.

10. Watch Dogs Games

Like Saints Row, Grand Theft Auto, Red Redemption, and other games that have been released in recent years, the Watch Dogs games are also about creating havoc in the most violent or disturbing way possible. They are filled with negative influences. They have bad language, violence, nudity or suggestive references, and more.

Like all the other games on this list, these were designed by people who certainly were not born-again and saved Christians. So, avoid them. They are all video games Christian teens shouldn’t play.

What to Play Instead?

If you want to avoid these violent and dangerous games but you know that your kids want a little more than many faith-based games provide, then we have a list of other games that they can play while still following the lessons of the bible while also avoiding temptations and negative thoughts.

Want To Be Truly Happy?

While video games can be fun, the real way to find true happiness is to accept Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and Savior. Whether we like it or not, we are all sinners, but Jesus paid the ultimate price so we can be forgiven and go to heaven after we die. By accepting Jesus and accepting that he died on the cross and that his blood covers our sins, we can be forgiven and finally be truly happy. We can forget about the stress and anxiety of this world and look forward to a wonderful life in heaven

All you have to do is pray, ask for Jesus to be your savior, and ask for forgiveness of your sins. If you really mean it, you can be born-again. You won’t be so obsessed with the bad things in this world and you can be truly happy.

Will you take the big step?
