Safe Video Games for Christians That Aren’t Faith-Based

5–7 minutes

There are many people out there who believe that the life of a Christian is very boring. They think it’s all about singing, praying, and reading the Bible. While all of those things are essential for a good, godly life, Christians are allowed to have some fun. There’s a lot that a Christian can do without sinning, including playing video games. Many Christian parents look for faith-based games for their teens to play, like Bible Adventures and anything starring the VeggieTales characters. However, there are many acceptable video games for Christians that aren’t faith-based and they’re a ton of fun.

In fact, there are many mainstream games that are played by all youngsters, from grade-schoolers to teenagers, and your Christian kids can get into the fun. Here is a list of games that don’t include gore, vulgar language, or inappropriate situations.

Mario Games

First on the list of video games for Christians that aren’t faith-based is a line of games that almost everyone is familiar with, and they are those featuring Mario and Luigi. From the original Mario Bros. game for the NES to newer games on the Nintendo Switch, there’s a lot of fun to be had here. The games are easy to learn and they’re very enjoyable as you jump from platform to platform with a variety of powerups.

These are harmless games that are appropriate for Christians. At worst, there is some cartoonish violence, but it’s nothing that would cause fear or turmoil.

Crash Bandicoot

Ever since the first game came out in the 1990s, there have been many Crash Bandicoot games for various different platforms. These are fun 3D-ish platforming games that allow you to jump, spin, and collect fruit while defeating the bad guy. Crash Bandicoot does not speak, so there’s no foul language or negative themes.

Now, these games can be challenging, so they’re likely not for small children. But teens and adults will have a blast.

Simulator Games

There has been a theme in recent years of simulator games flooding the market. These are games that allow you to recreate certain jobs from the comfort of your living room. There is a powerwasher simulator, a white collar worker simulator, a construction worker simulator, and more.

There are also some more unique games, like a goat simulator and simulators for other animals. These are all harmless games. There aren’t really characters involved, so they can’t be offensive or use foul language. Granted, these games are not for everyone, but they are great video games for Christians that aren’t faith-based.

Forza Motorsport and Horizon games

If you want to find games that are typically free of blood, guts, and foul lang, then consider one of the many driving games out there. I personally love the Forza Horizon games. They allow you to drive around, race, and find collectables in a vast open world. They are a ton of fun. There is no bad language. It’s just driving. You can sink endless hours into these games and never get bored.

With that said, try to avoid some of the later Need For Speed games, like Need for Speed: Payback and Need for Speed: Heat as they occasionally use God’s name in vain.

Minecraft

With the Minecraft movie now in theaters, people are remembering just how fun and inventive these games can be. While there is some story involved, Minecraft is all about building your own life out of blocks. You can build anything, including your own home, and some people really bring it to the next level. In addition to being fun, the Minecraft games also help with your teen’s imagination and critical thinking skills.

LEGO Games

Similar to Minecraft, LEGO games also allow players the chance to build and enjoy sin-free adventures. The LEGO games are pretty cartoonish, so you won’t be hearing any foul language or seeing any violence. There are many different LEGO games in a variety of genres, including some that focus on Star Wars, Marvel superheroes, Indiana Jones, and more. There’s something for everyone, and the games are a ton of fun.

Zelda

Among the best, suitable video games for Christians that aren’t faith-based are the many Zelda games. The games are all basically the same. Link, the hero, must fight monsters and get through trap-filled dungeons to save Princess Zelda.

Even though there are weapons and fighting in this game, it’s not over-the-top like a horror game. It’s very tame and a lot of fun. There are many fun and safe games to try, including the classic called Breath of the Wild.

Sports

Sports games are one of the most popular genres for video games, and most of them are harmless enough for your Christian teen to play without worry. Whether they like football, baseball, hockey, paintball, or anything in between, there’s a game out there for them.

If you want to make sure that a game is suitable and that it doesn’t contain blood, violence, and foul language, then check the rating sticker on the back. Avoid anything that is rated M for mature. However, most games will have a lower rating and be perfectly fine for your kids.

Spyro

Finally, we have the Spyro games. These are games that center around a lovable dragon who must go through different worlds while finding collectables and playing mini games. There are various games featuring Spyro and most of them are very highly reviewed. I have played the first three games myself and they are very enjoyable.

These are animated games that are like cartoons. There is no blood or guts and no foul language. They are very light hearted and a ton of fun.

Want To Be Truly Happy?

While video games can be fun, the real way to find true happiness is to accept Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and Savior. Whether we like it or not, we are all sinners, but Jesus paid the ultimate price so we can be forgiven and go to heaven after we die. By accepting Jesus and accepting that he died on the cross and that his blood covers our sins, we can be forgiven and finally be truly happy. We can forget about the stress and anxiety of this world and look forward to a wonderful life in heaven

All you have to do is pray, ask for Jesus to be your savior, and ask for forgiveness of your sins. If you really mean it, you can be born-again. You won’t be so obsessed with the bad things in this world and you can be truly happy.

Will you take the big step?
