How God Can Help You Make Friends

Loneliness is a major problem in our world today. People think they have friends, but they often only see people on screens, social media, and TikTok. Essentially, they rarely communicate person-to-person or create any meaningful connections. Sound familiar? 

It can be tough, but did you know that God can help you make friends?

Many people are afraid to make friends because they think they’ll turn on them or they don’t think they’ll have anything in common with the people they meet. While that can be true, you can make good friends. You may just need a little help.

These are the qualities you need to find in a true friend:

• Someone you can share your feelings with.
• Someone you have things in common with.
• Someone you can enjoy time with.
• Someone you can call or text in times of need. 
• Someone who wants to see you be happy.

There are several ways that you can try to find good, quality friends. You can try meeting people at school activities or by finding groups online. 

However, if you want to make friends with whom you have things in common and who you actually want to be around, then you need God.

How God can help you make friends

There are many ways that a relationship with God and Jesus Christ can help you to make true friends that can last a lifetime. Here are a few ways to get started:

Attend a Bible-believing Church

If you have good morals, you’re good at heart, and you want to know how you can find nice people like yourself, then head to church. You want to find a bible-believing church. Not every church will tell you the true lessons of God. Many churches will start with what God said but then twist it into something else.

Typically, a bible-believing church will make it obvious that they stick to the Bible. A Baptist church is usually a good bet. Meet People

The great thing about believing in God and going to church is that you’ll meet a lot of people without having to do much at all. When you go there, most people will come up to you. 

People at church are very friendly. They’re happy people who enjoy life and they know it’s because of God. That’s why they’re so excited when they meet you. They’re thrilled that someone else believes in God and wants to live a good life.

You’ll likely see the same people week after week, and if you talk to them, friendships will start to form. 

There are also many clubs to join and volunteer opportunities at church that will allow you to meet even more people. If something that interests you comes up, ask to join and see what happens.

God teaches the attributes necessary to become a good friend

The best way to find good friends that are nice, friendly, and will stick with you through the hard times is to follow the lessons that God has provided for us in the Bible. 

You can learn how to be a good friend by following the 10 Commandments. One of them is that you should not covet your neighbor. That means to not be jealous of others and to be grateful for what you have. 

Many friendships end because there is jealousy. They can’t just be happy for one another, and it causes tension. People in church know the commandments, so you won’t have that problem. If you ever find yourself feeling jealous of someone else, remember all of the great things that God does for you every day. There is always something to be thankful for.

The other big commandment when it comes to friendship is that you shall not bear false witness against others. Basically, it means you should not lie. Good friends need to be able to depend on one another. If you lie to a friend just once, it forms a crack in your relationship. Going to church and finding people who believe in God will improve your chances of finding friends who will never lie to you.

You don’t need Church to make friends

God can help you make friends even if you don’t go to church. Technically, you don’t need to go to church at all to go to heaven. You just need to be born again and saved by Jesus Christ and believe in your heart that he died for your sins. 

So, don’t feel pressured to go to a church to make friends, but it will help if you want to be sure that you’re making good friends. 

Still, you need to be sure that the friends you find will be good friends. One way to determine how grounded and positive a potential friend might be is by thinking about where you meet them.

You probably won’t find good friends at a bar. Drinking never leads to anything good and so, while there may be nice people at the bar, they probably aren’t the kind of friends that you’re looking for. 

There’s a chance that you could make friends at work, but you should consider how they act while on the job. If they use crude language, they may be rude outside of work. If they’re constantly tardy, it may mean that they won’t be there for you when you need them the most.

You may not find good friends right away

Many people are very excited about meeting new friends but they get upset when they don’t find life-long pals right away. The truth is that it can take time to make friends. 

People need to have a chance to get to know you. That won’t happen overnight. In fact, if someone says they want to be friends after only speaking with you for a few minutes, it may actually be a red flag.

You also should want to know more about a person before you spend more time with them. You should try to learn about what they like, how they act, what they dislike, and more. 

You can get ahead of that process if you go to church and find people who have a strong faith in God. Then you’ll know about their beliefs and that they’re likely a good person. From there, you can learn more about them and forge a friendship.

Accept Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and Savior. Whether we like it or not, we are all sinners, but Jesus paid the ultimate price so we can be forgiven and go to heaven after we die. By accepting Jesus and accepting that he died on the cross and that his blood covers our sins, we can be forgiven and finally be truly happy. We can forget about the stress and anxiety of this world and look forward to a wonderful life in heaven. 

All you have to do is pray, ask for Jesus to be your savior, and ask for forgiveness of your sins. If you really mean it, you can be born-again. You won’t be so obsessed with the bad things in this world and you can be truly happy.
